6 Reverse Harem Dramas You Don't Want to Miss!

Reverse harem is a type of drama where the lead girl is surrounded by a group of flower boys, preferably living with them. The boys may or may not have a love interest in the heroine, but they must have a close relationship with her.

Ouran High School Host Club

Ouran is one of my favorite mangas out there. When I heard they were going to make a drama about it I got very excited, though I have to admit, I was worried about the cast.

OHSHC is a very cute drama, I think they did a pretty good job with the casting, and the story unfolds at a very good pace. This drama is so easy to watch, it’s pretty simple but entertaining as well (11 episode drama and 1 movie). This drama also has a gender-bender genre (the heroine disguising as a man), it’s full of comedy and overall is a very light hearted drama. The story is about a normal high school student, Haruhi, that enrols at Ouran High School, a school full of rich people, and due to some misunderstanding, she has to live her school days as a male student, joining one of the weirdest clubs in the school; the Host Club. So Haruhi ends up surrounded by 6 rich, handsome and very interesting club mates, who will teach her all about being a host;

* Tamaki, the president of the Host club, son of the school’s director, 2nd year student.
* Kyouya, vice president of the club, 2nd year student, Tamaki’s classmate.
* Mori-sempai, 3rd year student, kendo abilities.
* Hani-sempai, 3rd year student, loves sweets, skilled at karate.
* Hikaru and Kaoru, they are twins and are Haruhi’s classmates as well.

With 6 men and a woman many hijinks are bound to happen and romance will start to bloom in the host club.

Atashinchi no Danshi

This drama is one of the weirdest I’ve seen, but it’s pretty entertaining. It’s about a homeless girl, Chisato, who is constantly being chased by loan sharks because of her father’s debts. One day she meets a very rich man, Okura Shinzo, who offers to pay her debts if she accepts to marry him. Not having many options, she accepts, therefore becoming mom to Shinzo’s 6 adopted sons. So there she goes to live in Shinzo’s strange house with the Okura brothers:

* Fuu (30 years old), he’s the oldest son and the coldest one.
* Takeru (27 years old), he’s a member of a bike gang and always dresses like a delinquent.
* Sho (25 years old), he works as a host in order to take care of his son.
* Masaru (22 years old), he is a model and works for a magazine, he has a phobia towards women.
* Satoru (17 years old), he lives isolated in his room (a hikikomori)
* Akira (12 years old), the youngest son he is a prodigy child, a genius.

She’ll have to work hard in order to make the brothers a family as they all hold a grudge against Shinzo and aren’t very friendly with each other.

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge

Now that we are in Halloween season, I think this drama will kind of fit the season. This drama is based on a manga and it’s about Sunako who goes to live at her aunt’s mansion. Her aunt has 4 tenants living in the house as well, all of them are very fine looking and pretty popular with the ladies. Sunako looks like Sadako (the girl from The Ring movie) because of her long black hair that covers her face. She is also into creepy things like skeletons, blood and everything that’s gory. So her aunt asks her tenants to help her turn Sunako into a beautiful proper lady and in exchange, they will be free from paying the rent.

Ikemen desu ne

This drama is the remake of the popular Korean drama, ' You’re beautiful'. Since I haven’t watched completely the Korean drama, I’ll write about the Japanese one. The story is about a soon to be nun, Miko, who has a twin brother, Mio, who is about to debut in a Jpop group. Due to some circumstances, Mio is unable to be present for the debut of the group so Miko ends disguising as him and taking his place until Mio is able to come back. So Miko has to live with the other 3 members of the group:

* Ren, he is the leader of the band, writes the band’s songs and also is the main vocalist.
* Shu, he is very quiet and calm, he plays the bass.
* Yuki, the drummer of the band and the most free-spirited of the trio.

This drama is very cute and the interactions of Miko with the members of the band are pretty hilarious, especially with Yuki.

Hana Kimi

Another drama based on a manga and also gender-bender. There are several remakes of this drama, but I’ll write about the original one, the first one was released in Japan. This drama is about a high school student who lives in the USA, but when she finds out her favorite high-jump athlete announced he’ll be quitting the sport, she decides to go back to Japan and help him return to high-jumping. The problem is the high-jump athlete, Sano Izumi, studies at an all boy’s high school, so Mizuki ends up disguising herself as a boy. She’s surrounded by handsome guys wherever she goes, so really you will have lots of eye candy. The story is pretty hilarious to watch, there are many things going on with the characters and also there are very unique characters in the story. This drama has one of the biggest harems I’ve seen in dramaland!!

Cinderella and the Four Knights

I recently finished watching this drama and even though it's not one of the best dramas out there, it’s very easy to watch and also is full of cuteness and fluff. This is the only Korean drama on my list, but I enjoy watching the main female lead's interaction with the boys, for the rest, you can always count on the fast forward button!

There are several people who have compared this plot with 'Atashinchi no Danshi', but I think it only bears one similarity, that the female lead has to turn those boys into a real family and that’s pretty much it. The dynamic is different between both dramas and also the characters are quite different.

'Cinderella and the Four Knights' is about Ha Won, a high school student, who in order to pay for her college studies accepts a job to reform chairman Kang’s grandsons and turn them into a family. So there she goes to live in the same house as the 3 Kang grandsons:

* Hyun Min, he is a player and the eldest of the cousins.
* Ji Won, he’s very conflicted about his identity because he recently found out he is the chairman´s grandson.
* Seo Woo, he is a professional singer and songwriter.
