The Moon unveiled stills of EXO's D.O. (Doh Kyung Soo) as Hwang Seon Woo, the first astronaut from South Korea to set foot on the moon.
The Moon is a story of an astronaut marooned on the moon following an accident, and Jae Guk (Sol Kyung Gu), the former head of the space center, trying to rescue him. This film marks director Kim Yong Hwa's first attempt into the genre of space, following his tremendous success with Along With the Gods movie series.
The newly-released stills portray Seon Woo on his lunar mission. His contrasting facial expressions pique curiosity about his circumstances.
In the movie, Hwang Seon Woo is a former UDT member with a background in molecular physics. He becomes the youngest crew member on board the first South Korean manned spacecraft "Yoo Ri Ho". However, an unexpected solar wind disrupts the spaceship's systems, leaving Seon Woo isolated in the desolate expanse of space.
In a life-threatening situation where survival hangs in the balance, Seon Woo decides to go to the moon to complete his mission, becoming the first South Korean astronaut to set foot on it. But, little does he know that his arduous trials have only just begun.
In his portrayal of this character, Do Kyung Soo masterfully conveys the intricate and nuanced emotions of Seon Woo, isolated 384,000 kilometers away from Earth.
Having made his debut as a member of the group EXO in 2012, Do Kyung Soo has firmly established himself as an accomplished actor, gracing both the small and big screens with his presence in productions like 100 Days My Prince, Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds, and Bad Prosecutor.
After working together in Along With the Gods movie series, his reunion with director Kim Yong Hwa in the upcoming movie has sparked excitement and anticipation from fans.
Commenting on his role, Do Kyung Soo shared, "I focused on portraying the fear, terror, and loneliness that Seon Woo would experience in his isolated state in space". He teased the emergence of a new character in his acting career.
Director Kim Yong Hwa fondly reminisced, "Since Along with the Gods, I think he has been acting for about a decade. During summer, he wore a spacesuit that weighed dozens of kilograms and performed superbly even in an airless and windless environment. It is a remarkable feat deserving immense applause". Such high praise from the director further heightens expectations for Do Kyung Soo's performance in the drama.
The Moon is set to premiere on August 2.
