abs parents watch k-drama . . . the next installment!
My parents bounded through my front door last night, like excited teenagers, exclaiming 'since we missed out on meeting last week - we can watch two episodes today can't we?!' ha. So I knew we were in for a fun time! Once they were installed on the sofa, cups of tea in hand, and I'd done the 'right - do we remember where we were?' catch-up bit, we settled in for episode 6!
Nana's pissed at Yoon Sung for buying her house, and mum pipes up 'why is she so STUBBORN?! why can't she see that he's so nice to her?! He even paid the hospital fees - what is wrong with her?'.
Owh, the prosecutor's picked up on the dad's leg - 'oh, you see, there's no hiding that! Good for you!'
So far, my parents know the names of only two people, Nana & Yoon Sung, everyone else is referred to by their role [the Prosecutor, the Dad, the Ex-wife, the Other body guard, the Office guy (who mum has a soft spot for, I think she just wants to hug him - during the scenes with him & his brother you would think my mum was watching a kitten being attacked by a tiger 'awwwwhhhh, poor thing')]
Her response to Yoon Sung - 'and he's no better - always coming in all defensive - what happen to the practicing?!' she says. Although, 'I do prefer it when he's being serious', but that doesn't seem to stop her laughing out loud during the interactions of YS & NN. Especially during the calling her over to clean dog poo & contract/price of touching her hand (etc) sections. They both found the 'what era is this' comment on the TV especially funny (for some reason)
whenever 'the baddie' [the candidate's bodyguard] shows up, there is 'see?! look, he's should be noticing that man - but he's too busy being distracted by her!' - for some reason, it's NaNa's fault.
My dad has developed a real soft spot for NaNa, he doesn't usually say much while we watch (unlike my mum who yabbers, exclaims and commentates throughout the entire thing), but when she cries he ALWAYS says 'she plays her part really well', which in dad language is 'isn't she adorable - I would rescue her if I could'
They finished the episode shouting 'owhhh BIG TROUBLE ABIGAIL - THERE'S BIG TROUBLE!! The prosecutor thinks Yoon Sung's having relations with his wife!! And NaNa saw!'
after stopping for a bite to eat, we moved to EPISODE 7
Apparently, the Dad, who my mum thinks is one of the hottest men EVA (she casually said the other day 'has he been in anything else?') is upset with YS (AGAIN) mum = 'oh i love it when he get's angry' - and does an IMPRESSION of him yelling! [too funny]
There's a lot more of the mum in this one, and my parents both are especially touched with these scenes. When YS piggybacks her home, then says 'I have no mother', I think my mum cried. Dad = 'he still believes she abandoned him' Mum = 'does he find out the truth?' 'Does she find out he's her son?' 'Does she DIE?!' Dad = 'I bet she dies' mum = 'they ALWAYS die at the end!!!!'
When the soundtrack changes and City Hunters appears in all his black-clad glory, to do some fighting, my mother exclaims 'HERE WE GO!! This is what we like to see!!!' followed by 'OHHH NOOOOOOOO!!!! She's got her gun trained on him' ::gasp:: 'she SHOT him!!!!!!' dad = 'it's OK love, he's not dead' mum = 'I know that, but HOW'S HE GOING TO GET OUT OF THIS ONE?!' at this point, both parents are practically stood up, and my mum is HORRIFIED that there is no preview of the next episode tagged on to this one!

Best Post Ever! I love your parents. Do they know they are fast becoming the stars of the City Hunter thread? ...I'm at work and totally should not be on here reading this (I am bad) So I shall comment more later. I am so jealous that you get to watch with your parents. What's more fun? The show, or their reactions?
Hey there, I just started this drama a few days ago, I'm on episode 7 at the moment (as I'm typing this) I am really enjoying it so far. Another friend of mine is the one who recommended it. I am really loving it. Lee Min Ho is tremendous in it. The Kim Na Na is such a stubborn woman sometimes to the point I wonder how he could put up with her but their chemistry is great. I love their comedic moments. Lee Min Ho is also very kick-ass when he's serious, especially during his fight scenes. I hope see more of them.

Cool! You wont regret watching it, at all! It's such a good ride! I'm really enjoying watching it too! ^^
round 3 - episode 8
(a wee bit late, but never mind)
Oh, and as an aside: this is one of my favourite episodes because it has two of my favourite shots in the entire show.
firstly:
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-D4J-XjVcpfw/TpWaGUQZ6jI/AAAAAAAABVM/1W-LLUlAoqw/s635/e8-1.jpg[/img]
and secondly:
right, with that being said - onto the breakdownâ?¦..
Monday night came and my parents arrived. [i]Early. No chance to put the kettle on, get snacks, make drinks, they wanted to watch the drama NOW ABIGAIL NOW!
(you wouldn't believe that it had been less than 24 hours since their last dose!)
'owh ouch, this doesn't look good' my mum says as YS hits the deck, and she becomes even more concerned that 'he really looks bad' as he's driving away, blood all over his hands.
She's always relieved to see the Dad, because she knows he will look after him [spoiler: I'm not sure how she's going to take it when he starts ramping up the violence, it will be interesting to see if her opinion shifts]. When YS's blood is taken, they both spring into CSI-watching-TV-forensics - agreeing with each other that he'd better be really careful now the prosecutor has his blood.
both of my parents really enjoy watching the Bourne series (which is why I picked this drama for them in the first place), and when YS breaks into the vets and starts to try to sort himself out, they both start with the Bourne comparisons 'oh this is just like Bourne - he removed his own bullet as well', 'The favour you owe me, can you return it today?' elicits an 'awhhhhh' moment from my dad, and they both go on to expound how lovely they think the Ex-wife is, that she covers for him, and takes care of him. She won lots and lots of parents points, that's for sure!
The (really beautifully shot) nightmare of YS is met with my dad jabbering (!! yes I KNOW MY DAD - mum even had to tell him to shhhhhhh) about how lovely a scene it was, and how it reminded him of a country and western song where (apparently) the two lovers end up shooting each other - which he then starts to sing - until my mum elbows him in the ribs, so she can concentrate on the subtitles!
Whenever YS gets his shoulder hurt after this point is met with 'owh - be careful of that shoulder! don't make it bleed again', and YS paleness and frailty is concerning to mum, who wants him to be 'more than human - and invincible' - she seems unable to watch him hurting, and it makes her very tense, worrying that it wont work out so well for him. My dad, on the other hand, thinks that is why this drama is so 'excellent! and really really well written', because it's not glossy and unrealistic (they are yet to realise they've got a LONG way to go).
The section where YS is trying to make sure NN isn't working, is laughed through, and thoroughly enjoyed. Ahjussi's revelation is an interesting turn, and they both made the immediate suggestion that perhaps he'd been bought off, and what a shame that is.
While YS is fighting the Prosecutor, my mum's exclamations turn into 'oh NO' 'I can't watch it' 'Come on - you can do it' 'quickly, quickly!'
At the end of the episode when YS has blood flowing down his arm, and is only just able to keep hold of NN, my mum shouts 'NOOOOOO - NOW WE'RE IN AN EVEN WORSE POSITION THAN WE WERE LAST NIGHT!!!!' 'and this time we HAVE to wait until Sunday!! You CAN do Sunday right?!'
So far, they think this is the best thing since sliced bread, and I am having an absolute hoot rewatching it with them. At this rate we will be done in a month or so, so perhaps I should start considering what we shall watch next!
^^

To be honest, I didn't think it would be as much fun as it has been so far, my dad's not bad with subtitles, it's my mum that struggles - but I let her have the remote, and she pauses (a lot) to read, catch up, and yabber about what's going on. I think if you can get one episode watched together - the rest is easy. I started with 'let's just watch one, and if you don't like it - we don't have to watch anymore' ^^

If only it was dat easy. My dad wouldn't sit done to watch an episode. My mom probably wouldn't either but its okay because she's okay with me watching dramas. Its my dad that's always giving me crap about watching drams.
