Greetings :)

I am trying to find new k-drama (or j-drama, since I fear I already watched all k-drama  focused on what I'm looking for already).

As title says, I'm searching for a K/J-Drama where MC and Villain got a strong personality (and possibly good acting), very clever and they prepared in advance huge masterplan to take revenge (or other purposes), where a lot of plot twists, constant challenges about outsmarting each other or unexpected ending will keep me glued for a proper binge ;)

I'm very open to the genres, and I live dramas where several genres are mixed within with the right proportion. I am not very interested in too much romantic or excessive irony. The too slow burner drama are as well not my cup of tea, not saying is an issue if the first 2-3 episodes are slow, but if the entire show is too slow, then it doesn't suits me well,

I will mention some of my favourites ones and the reason (and you can check my watched list to get a better feeling about the recommendation I'm looking for):

Doctor Prisoner -> Amazing in terms of masterplans, plot twists, strong characters personality and acting, adaptation (enemy becomes "ally"), and the right dosage of various elements!

Vagabond, Iris -> Great characters, Plot and mystery unfolding and plot twist, and a mind-blow ending (despite the disappointment of the last minutes ;)

Devi Judge -> The dystopian theme and the absolutely clever MC/"Villain" where roles are not really clear and full of surprises

Defendant, Mad Dogs -> Great mix of several genres, where the elements I'm looking for are present and plot twists are definitely satisfying

I enjoyed a lot other kind of k-drama that despite they were not my main "cup of tea", they contained the elements above and I really loved them, like The Penthouse: War in Life or other ones with low- or high- Sci-Fi Themes - as long as they contain the elements I'm looking for, except the too slow or love-focused only dramas, I'm fine with every genre ;)  (Titles like Sisyphus: The Myth, Alice in Borderland, Squid Games. Circle, Tomorrow, Black are some of my fav dramas, but they are not really related with this recommendation request ;)

I am aware historical ones could be great titles as well, but except The King: Eternal Monarch that was amazing for me (even if too "romantic" in some parts), the MC/Villain duel was great, the other ones I watched (maybe I just picked the wrong ones?) like The Crowned Clown I dropped it, so not sure about them, if there is one you recommend to change my mind about them giving the vibes of the ones mentioned above, feel free ;)

Please note I mentioned the ones I liked at most, I watched several other ones with a similar vibes that I enjoyed, but it's no use to list them all here -  before making a suggestion, have a look the the other ones I already watched / Plan to watch on my profile! --> https://mydramalist.com/dramalist/10019917 <--

Thank you a lot for your advice!

  • Adamas- Still airing
  • Café Minamdang- still airing
  • Big Mouth- still airing
  • Itaewon Class-ML plots 10 year revenge plan
  • Good Manager- Comedic vibes  and ML uses his smarts for criminal purposes but turns good
  • Again My Life- ML reborn and takes revenge on criminal network running the prosecution and government.
  • Doctor Lawyer- ML was not great acting wise but the SML stole the show. Has everything you would want otherwise
  • Eve- FL used herwhole life to get revenge but this does get super melodramatic.
  • Insider- Kind of slow paced in the beginning but does have  its moments. ML seems less than capable in the beginning but not what he seems as show progresses
  • Military Prosecutor Doberman- FL is pretty bad ass and ropes ML into her revenge
  • Taxi Driver- Kind of episodic and revenge  is tailored by a team like in mad dog
  • The King of Pigs- The vuctim fights back years later tenfold
  • The Veil- A spy
  • Tracer-ML gets revenge but this is based on financial crimes
  • Maou
  • Death Note
  • Lookout
  • Mouse

@Saygo : Woah thanks! The first 3 ones airing now just from the trailer seem definitely what I'm looking for! I really can't watch a tv-shows waiting every time a week, i'll wait to be out ;)
- Again my Life (forgot to add to my list completed) -> I watched it last month, it was OK'ish, concept and story could have been ok, but it felt really poor with execution, it didn't gave me any particular hype
- Taxi Driver -> Yes, this one even if episodic definitely satisfied me, and brought me to watch after it the cult City Hunter

I don't know for which reason I stopped watching Itaewon Class, maybe I was just not in the mood. I will give it another try, thanks for remembering it to me! The Veil I was very hyped from the trailer but after a few episodes I didn't feel like it was worth to keep watching it.
I will definitely check out your other suggestions, since it seems you guessed well my taste ;)

Above already mentioned most of what I can think of, but...

If you like "palace dramas" then you should look at:
Queen Seon Duk
Empress Ki
Dong Yi
The good guys and bad guys constantly trying to outsmart each other.

 Spider3Spiddo:
Death Note I watched the Anime long time a go and of course I loved it, could worth to watch it again as drama.

I forgot to mention that I recommend watching the movies which are way better than the drama

Oh i enjoy that trope a lot too.
Money Flower - highly recommend this one. I think this is up to date the best revenge dramas and a personal all time favorite. Yes it is slow but the story is complex and the character development absolutely amazing.

Watcher - Watcher reminds me of Signal. It has a revenge story, morally grey characters and an ending that is one of my personal most favorites.

And then some that already were named:
+ Taxi Driver
+ The King of Pigs

In regards to japanese dramas i would recommend you to give these a try
Aku no Hado - The Evi's Wave - story about a suspect. Short but really good.
Ishi no Mayu and the sequel Sushi no Kodo are also quite well done crime series with very diverse characters and stories.

<3 thank you everyone for the suggestions! I had to make some "detox" because the addiction to k-drama was eating too much of my time and I just watched single movies..but now it's definitely time for 2-3 k-drama again *grins*
