From a young age, he developed a passion for reading, often borrowing books from the library in the morning and returning them in the evening to swap for new ones.
He graduated from Seikei University's Faculty of Economics in 1984. Following this, he led a freeter lifestyle until his mother's passing prompted him to pursue a more defined career path. Starting as a copywriter at an advertising production company and later at an advertising agency, he transitioned to freelance copywriting by the age of 33.
At 36, Ishida decided to pivot to novel writing, submitting entries to numerous literary awards. His debut work, "Ikebukuro West Gate Park," marked his entry into the literary world.
In 2015, he launched the web magazine "Sundays with the Novelist" through "Yakan Hiko," a paid email magazine service, delivering novels, essays, and other content twice a month on the second and fourth Fridays.
