Nakamura developed an interest in the entertainment industry during her later years in elementary school, auditioning for theater groups and participating in university idol contests. In August 1985, while in her first year at Tokyo Metropolitan Higashimurayama Nishi High School, she participated in the 10th Horipro Talent Scout Caravan and advanced to the final selection. The following summer, she won first place in the "Summer Queen Contest" organized by "Weekly Young Jump" magazine, marking her debut in the entertainment industry. She then transferred to Tokyo Metropolitan Yoyogi High School.
In January 1987, Nakamura made her singing debut with the song "Dilemma."
In late March 2005, Nakamura moved to the United States, initially living in Los Angeles before relocating to Austin, Texas. Since moving to the U.S., she has not engaged in acting activities in Japan, limiting her involvement to appearances on variety shows.
