I have a system.. I read reviews of dramas I haven't seen and I haven't decided yet to watch them- it helps me to decide whether to watch it or not. I prefer to read those from people I know wouldn't spoil me - I usually check out my MDL friends reviews. If it helps me to decide ( watching or not) I mark it as helpful. Then if I already seen a drama, I read all reviews I stumble across on main page or elsewhere, if it has spoilers or it wasn't based on whole drama I'd mark them unhelpful. But mostly I prefer to praise and give generously helpful marks. So when I see a review that makes sense, although I don't agree with it, I don't bash them - It's a matter of taste after all - I just walk away. I like episodes reviews too, it's a good way to relieve tension after watching great or annoying episode. But I read only those on episodes I've already seen. And I never read reviews on dramas I'm already watching or I'm sure I'll watch, because I found it can mess up my expectations and I might learn too much about the plot. Now I have no idea what my post have to do with the subject.... I was just bored.. so not to be accused of thread-jacking: I definitely don't like reviews that aren't based on whole drama, because it has been proven many times that a drama plot often makes no sense unless you watched the ending- sometimes it can change the whole meaning of the drama. Also sadly it often happens that great first episodes don't guarantee that the story won't get messed up halfway through. Even if I drop a drama for important reasons, I don't feel entitled to judge it as a whole and I leave it to those who have sacrificed their time to watch it. There are always comments to express why you've dropped it.
I don't read reviews. I read recaps of episodes but that's different from a review in my book and I only read those if I don't feel like watching a drama or I need to remember an episode I liked and I want to re-watch it. Otherwise I find most rviews useless that I come across. I am sure there are good ones out there but I do not read them because of future disappointment. Now, I'll look at the recommendation area that MDL has, but I will avoid reviews for the most part. Harsh I know but I don't want a review to tell me to watch because of an actor or actress or to tell me why it sucks is because of said actor andactress or whatever other reasons they give. I love a number of dramas people have given bad reviews on. Here is Greenwood is an example. It's a manga I adored and a live action I adore. Maybe if those people read the manga they would understand it's craziness. But oh well, not always gonna happen. So for the most part I don't read reviews. I do get irked seeing them there however if it's only be one or 4 episodes in so I click unhelpful. That's when people should do episode reviews I believe. ^^
