I don't know if it's been already mentioned but I started learning Japanese on my DS with My japanese coach it's a good way to learn hiragana/kata since you have to write them aswell, i don't know if there is kanji i didn't go that far yet but it makes you learn lots of usefull words/phrases There are lots of small lessons (around 1000? can't remember) after every lessons you have to master it with games before you can go to the next one Definetly worth it for beginners ^^

i had no time for studying at work today, too busy. i might try to squeeze in a livemocha lesson or 2 after supper

I am planning to learn by live mocha lessons too ;) Today I had my first one ^^

i remember shi and tsu like this
shi: "she" tilts her head
i saw this in one of the guides or apps or something or other, i forget what they used for tsu but i remember it as "a tsupid face" as in "stupid" cause it's sort of a wonky smiley face hahaha

so and n are trickier but i haven't had problems with no (if you like, remember there's "no" dash over it)

Thank you... I hope I'll be finally able to remember them.
Sadly I don't think so, I tried tell me more Japanese but it's all about repeating phrases and games are really not fun (at least not like my japanese coach)
there are free apps as well if you have an ipod touch or iphone, i use kanatap a lot to practice hiragana and katakana. and kotobo for kanji, it's an awesome dictionary but you can also study with it, it lists kanji either by jlpt or school grade level or other ways, and each one will show you stroke order, radicals etc and usually shows how it's used as a root in other words or phrases, and each other word it shows has a link so you can tap it to go to that word and read about it, and so on. that part's handy when you're confused (or just curious) about multiple readings or meanings of the same character too. i think other than tae kim's guide which is fantastic, kotoba is my favourite app and is definately the most useful in terms of japanese study. those of you who are new to this thread, if you haven't yet go check out the stickied thread of japanese resources, we've been listing and reviewing books, sites, apps, etc that we've discovered and/or used
for kana games there's one online that's similar to kanatap http://www.aeriagloris.com/LearnJapanese/index.html but the one i prefer is https://www.readthekanji.com/ because it shows you characters used in a sentence. once you're familiar with enough kana you can read it in context and get a better understanding rather than just a character on a screen. memorizing is important but you will retain info more if you're able to see and use it in context. it's mainly for kanji but there is a hiragana mode which uses a bit of katakana also. it's free while more advanced levels are by paid membership. you just write the highlighted kana in romaji, and it'll track which ones you get wrong and show them to you more often, that sort of thing.
I wanted to get a DS just to get a Kanji Kentei game, lol. I realized it was a waste of money just for one game, so I've decided against it (for now hehe).

Since we're sharing:
These are the sites I typically use (nothing fun and game like, hehe)

1. Skritter: you use your mouse or a wacom pen/tablet to write kanji.
2. Renshuu: Lots and Lots of customizable vocab, grammar and kanji quizzes.
3. Japanese Online Institute: live online japanese lessons using mic and/or cam. They also have a few quizzes for registered students.
3. Kanji Damage: Basically a list of kanji in an order that's supposed to make it easier to remember. It has all the usual information plus information and "real life" usage and mnemonic sentences.
4. Conversation Exchange: A site used to get a pen pal or find a language exchange partner.

I sometimes use Livemocha. Everything else I do involves pen, paper and real books.
i did study but i fell asleep after a few pages. i revised the previous 2 chapters on introductions(introduce self and others to someone else; giving someone your meishi(business card) and telling them your address, company info and number) but i did not even finish the short chapter 3 i started last night. :(. it was barely 9pm when i passed out for the night. i'm just happy that i did smtng that i can report on.

chapter 3's topic is day and time.
なんじですか。 nan ji desuka? - what time is it?
なんようびですか。nan youbi desuka? - what day of the week is it?
なんにちですか。nan nichi desuka? - what day of the month is it?
なんがつですか。nan gatsu desuka? -what month is it?

the lesson goes on to discuss telling the time.
eg. いまなんじですか。ima nan ji desuka? -what is the time now?

いまごせん1じです。 ima gosen 1 ji desu. - it is now 1am.
いまごご3じ45ふんです。 ima gogo 3 ji 45 fun desu - it is now 3:45pm.

this is where i fell asleep. today i will complete this chapter which continues into dialogue excercises telling time. what time does the store open and close? what time does lunch start and end? stuff like that. then it goes into days of the week and months of the year(revision for me) days of the month (new to me but should not be hard). dialogue excercises about days and months and new vocabulary introduced in this chapter.

ごせん-gosen=am
ごご-gogo=pm
いま-ima=now

Ok but thank you anyway :)
@Kawaikochan :Haha I have thought about it too :D I have alread two "games" resolving japanese that are only there for the DS :D
So this is how it looks:

Lessons: (Random) http://img820.imageshack.us/slideshow/webplayer.php?id=img1183k.jpg
Games: (I did not take a pic of all games just 4) http://img684.imageshack.us/slideshow/webplayer.php?id=img1193gf.jpg

I would not buy a DS just for this game but if you already have one you should really try it ^^
