Studying Japanese Language/Literature/History

it makes sense more or less but i need to review it since i had a couple weeks gap in the middle of the unit

Now it can say it...actually I wanted to get an japanese course as my birthday present.. But today my father wanted me to talk with him about it and he said it is way tooo expensive :( 37 Euros per hour.......*sob,sob* What do I do now ??

call ur local japanese embassy to find out of there are any free resources to help learn or anyone willing to tutor free or low cost.

another option that i recently found out about (much too late if i do say so myself) is the JICA--japan international cooperation agency, which comprises of young people who volunteer to work all over the place, doing research, social dev't projects, gaining work experience in an international experience. my country has a branch and i've met several of these volunteers who have been here for over a yr (contract is usually 2 yrs) and have been giving lessons for free to anyone willing to learn. in my experience they are really nice and open people.

so maybe you could find out from ur local embassy if they have a branch of JICA in ur country. if they do find out if any of the volunteers live or work in ur area and would be willing to tutor once a week or more (at his or her convenience). i really wish i had thought of this for myself last year, my japanese would be much better than it is now. that reminds me i need to call hiro sensei to find out if we have class today?

You can also try taking lessons online. There are a bunch of places that offer classes or private lessons through Skype or other computer programs that allow you to communicate using a cam and mic. Personally, I use Japanese Online Institute. Their group lessons are 500-900 yen and their private lessons start at 1775 yen. I think the Euro and Yen are basically 1:1 now, so this would be less than the lesson you looked at. They also recently started a referral program.

I've never taken their private lessons, but I can definitely recommend the group lessons. I may take a private lesson soon, so I'll let you guys know what I think.

sadly i'd have to travel like 4+ hours to get to a Japanese embassy which is just not gonna happen =/ i really wish we lived in a bigger city, there's just nothing here

it still won't hurt to call the embassy and find out if there are any resources or personnel in ur area that can assist with ur learning the language. imo there is more to gain and nothing to lose with this call. u either find out there is nothing or u find out there are many ways (resources/classes) to learn in ur area.

i just wish i knew then what i know now since i met hiro sensei and his friends. i could have been learning japanese with a tutor since 2010 if i knew this. damn it! but at least i will get to immerse myself in the language in 2 wks. i'm going to japan on 20th of march. tickets purchased, getting visa this wk, putting everything else in order to leave.

I've been interested in learning the Japanese language since I was 13 (about 8 years ago), and I only have really basic knowledge of it, mainly because in High School I had to choose a foreign language and Japanese was not a class at the time, so instead I took German for 3 years which threw me off course with my wanting to learn Japanese. So now, I'm married, and me AND my Husband are wanting to learn the language together, and he has a little less knowledge of it than I do, but we would be starting fresh anyways. My question to you guys would be, does anyone know if it is worth it taking the college courses for Japanese, or would it be better to learn on my own? My husband already attends the college so it would be no problem for him, but I wasn't sure what the costs would be or if I would even be able to go to the university just for the language class, which they only offer Japanese 1 and 2. Also my reasoning for wanting to go to Japan would be just to see the culture that I've been interested in for so many years now and be able to experience the lifestyle. Rather then visiting a big city like Tokyo, I would prefer to visit the countryside instead. I went to England once and I absolutely loved it just because of how different things were, and i think the experience would be the same for me if I could go to Japan and know at least a good amount of the language to be able to enjoy my stay there and get around on my own.

There are a lot of blogs and videos on youtube about this issue (including whether you should just take japanese classes in college or major in japanese). If I come across another, I will make sure to post it here or send you a PM.

I haven't taken a formal Japanese class, but I am considering it. In addition to the japanese courses at the many colleges here, there are classes offered by commercial language schools in my area as well. Right now, I'm leaning towards taking an immersion course at the commercial school (it's a week long), then continuing my independent study. I enjoy the flexibility of choosing when and what I want to study, and I've been able to keep at it steadily.

i got the visa yesterday! yay! so i have 12 days left at home and i'm excited. my room is a mess as i am trying to sort what to pack. i got work from the company already which is a good thing. I have to do an english grammar test *eeek* lol and a self introduction lesson plan(talk about myself, my country, my family, include teaching aids like pics etc.). this gives me the time to prep and source out the local maerial i will need to bring with me. i feel a lil overwhelmed tho cuz the days are passing by and i have so much to do and very lil money to spend.
